Clean Eating | Mango-Banana Breakfast Smoothies

When Tiffany introduced the “Clean Eating” series a few weeks ago, I was inspired and excited to adjust my own diet. I’ve not exactly been demonstrating the greatest eating habits lately. Despite my best efforts back in January to make doable New Year’s resolutions involving exercising and healthful eating, those resolutions lasted about as long as the bag of chips (that used to be) in my pantry.

Clean eating isn’t about eating food that makes you feel like you’re on a diet. For me, it’s about eating real food that gives you the nutrition you need without skimping on taste.

With summer right around the corner, I think smoothies are the perfect way to practice clean eating. And what better summer flavor combination that mangoes, bananas and coconut? Maybe my tropical flavor cravings are due to the fact that my sister just got back from Grand Cayman and in my jealousy of excitement for her, I’ve been attempting to recreate the flavors of island life in my breakfast routine.

Regardless of the reason for this tropical-inspired smoothie, it’s a great way to “eat clean”. I like to start with ingredients like plain yogurt and unsweetened coconut milk so I can add my own sweetener and better monitor the sugar content. The yogurt, milk, fruit and chia seeds provide protein, fiber and other essential nutrients. Most importantly, all these ingredients blended together actually taste good so you’re palate will be satisfied until your next clean meal.

Mango-Banana Breakfast Smoothies

Serves: 2
330 calories per serving
  • 1 medium banana
  • 1 mango, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp raw honey or sweetener of choice
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice
  • 1 cup of ice
  • Sprinkle of flaked sweetened coconut
  1. Add all ingredients (except flaked coconut) to a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into glasses.
  4. Garnish with flaked coconut (optional).
  5. Enjoy!

  6. WOW! Just made this after my 5:30am workout. It is absolutely delicious. I added protein powder to mine for an extra kick and did not include the chia seeds (didn’t have any at home) or the ice (I used frozen mango instead). Thanks so much for this nice addition to my morning routine!
